aromas

Memories. They're powerful things. Remember when we were in school and the lunch lady would serve up square pizza? Think about the pizza sitting on that flimsy foam tray. It has those little cubed bits of pepperoni. Grease everywhere. Everyone folded the slice in half to eat it because you didn't want to be 'that kid'. You're remembering the taste and smell, aren't you? Yeah. Us, too. [pause for nostalgic moment]

Because aromas have the power to evoke such strong reactions, we've rightfully devoted a significant amount of time and attention into selecting the perfect aromas for our products; aromas that excite the senses; aromas that leave an indelible mark on the olfactory memory of everyone you meet. But we’ve selected our aromas differently than most of the other guys. We chose to go with all-natural essential oils instead of synthetic (read: fake) fragrances. What that means is our blends can have both aromatherapeutic benefits and incredible staying power. Hours after application, people are still going to know what you've got on your beard, and that's not a bad thing; unless it's food. That's kinda gross.

All that to say, when you apply in the morning, don't be surprised if you come home to a rather randy partner waiting to rip the clothes from your body.

Blue Tansy

Imagine you’re laying in a patch of wild blueberries in an old-growth forest. That’s what it’s like to smell Blue Tansy, which is pretty bad ass. It's a colorful little flower, that, when steam-distilled, turns blue, giving part it’s name. It’s has a warm, complex herbaceous sweetness that’s incredibly soothing.

Cinnamon

Our Cinnamon essential oil has a deep orange-like top note, followed by a sweet and warmly spiced middle note, and a dry, powerfully savory undertone. Because we have this thing about not raping the Earth, our Cinnamon essential oil is derived from the bark of the Sri Lankan Ceylon Cinnamon tree, which is one of the best renewable resources of Cinnamon. These evergreens typically grow up to 50 feet high with thick, strong branches, which produce a smooth, thin bark with a light-yellowish brown color. It is this bark that is harvested for essential oil production and then allowed to regrow.

Clove Bud

Most people, when they see the word clove, immediately think of those delectable smokey treats made by the wonderful folks at Djarum. What most people don’t know is that some historical accounts say people who regularly handled Clove Bud became immune to all kinds of epidemics, like the Black Death. We’re not suggesting that you go hang out with a bunch of infected rodents, but if you were going to, it might be really smart to stock up on some Clove Bud essential oil before you tempt fate.

Cypress

Our Cypress has a distinct musky and citrus-like top note with a crisp, pine-like middle note and sweet balsamic undertones. The Greek physician Galen used Cypress for stopping internal bleeding and diarrhea, so, you know, if you've got issues there, you could use some Cypress, but you should also go see a doctor… like, now.

Eucalyptus Globulus

This badass evergreen tree grows up to 300 feet tall. It’s like the King of the Outback Trees. The 'Blue Gum' Eucalyptus is native to Australia, and particularly Tasmania and is the most well known of the Eucalyptus varieties. And cute Koala Bears hang out in their branches. Awww.

It’s fragrance is fresh, penetrating, woody, and camphoraceous.

frankincense.jpg

Frankincense

“Frank”, as we affectionately refer to it, is the quintessential go-to in the essential oil world. It’s benefits are said to be exhaustive. It’s an anti-inflammatory, anti-septic, anti-depressive, anti-bacterial, and on and on and on. But what we're really interested in is the complex aroma. The high note is like a fresh lime. The middle note is a bit spicy, with the bottom note having deep, warm, rich balsamic undertone. Real complex. Real good.

Ho Wood

Ho Wood. Come on, now. That’s just fun to say. We could go a lot of places with it, but we’ll let your imagination run wild. Aromatically, Ho Wood is bright, warm and slightly woody. Traditionally, the wood has been used for the handles of Japanese swords because it’s soft and won't scratch the blades. Magically, it’s been used to help break unhealthy emotional patterns that cause us to gorilla grip dissatisfying situations. And let’s be honest: who want’s to hang on to that negative shit, anyways?

Marjoram

Our Sweet Marjoram has a deep, warm, musky, woody, spicy and mildly camphorous aroma. Its original name comes from a Greek word meaning 'Joy of the Mountains' because the oil is considered to have warming, soothing and fortifying effects. So, if you're in the mood to feel the Joy of the Mountains, we've got you covered.

Rosemary

Our Rosemary has a bright pine and eucalyptus-like menthol top note, a slightly sweet, orange-like middle note, and undertones of light wildflower honey and cedar shavings. It’s best known for its aid in memory and hair loss. We can't do much about the hair on your head, but at least you can rest well knowing your beard can stay firmly affixed to your face.

Sandalwood

Our Sandalwood comes from Hawaii, as it’s one of the few sustainable sources of Sandalwoods in the essential oil industry. It’s has a bright, sweet, woody, honey fragrance that makes you wanna put on a wetsuit and hang-ten!

Spruce

There are several kinds of Spruce essential oils out there, but we chose the Canadian Eastern Hemlock Spruce, mostly because of it’s bright citrus and floral top note, a distinctly green and resinous pine menthol and eucalyptus middle note with undertones that are slightly balsamic and deeply wooded, but we can’t lie: it’s pretty badass to be able to say one of our ingredients is Hemlock.

Vetiver

Our Vetiver is a viscous, brown essential oil containing herbaceous middle notes woven with deep, smoky, leathery and rich, earthy undertones. And like a great whiskey, it becomes more complex and smooth with age.

White Fir

Our White Fir has a bright, pine top note with a slightly sweet menthol and honeyed middle note with balsamic, resinous undertones. Think of a tree, whose roots reach deep into the Earth while it's branches reach high into the sky and you'll get a picture of the emotional affects of this oil. Grounding, yet empowering and uplifting. It leaves you feeling emotional stable and strong enough to weather the storms.

Wild Orange

There’s nothing like the fragrance of a fresh wild orange on a hot summer day. It’s refreshing, it’s uplifting, and it’s damn tasty. Orange essential oil has been used for its calming, sedative effects, but we think it smells just lovely.
